NewWell Gives Back
Remote Area Medical (RAM)
NewWell Fund staff participated in the
annual Remote Area Medical health fair that brought more than 1,500 volunteer
doctors, nurses, dentists, optometrists and others to Wise County in Southwest
Virginia on July 25-27, 2008. This event provided over $1.7 million worth of
free medical care to over 2600 individuals. The RAM organization, headquartered
in Knoxville, Tennessee, has provided medical care for the poor and uninsured
throughout the United States and around the world since 1985.
Donation to Shriners
Hospital
NewWell
Fund staff donated their own time and money to the Jared Box Project as a
community service project. Staff prepared and donated 24 Jared Boxes for
children in the orthopedic and spinal cord units of the Shriners Hospital in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A Jared Box is a plastic storage box filled with
small gifts, toys, cards and games. The boxes are given to chronically ill
children to provide a special diversion as they receive medical treatments. The
boxes symbolize the importance of play and are filled with well wishes, hope and
love, and lift the spirits of chronically ill children.
